Messages from Mr Bridge

Sunday 12th July 2020

Well you have made it... all the way to the end of the year. I am so sad that I have not been able to be with you but you have done really well in very difficult circumstances. I know that Mrs Jackson is looking forward to teaching you in September. This weeks mega workers are Olivier, Julia , Jakub and Zuzanna. Well done you 4 some exceptional pieces of work.

Website Challenge

Anybody get lost on Zoomquilt last week? This week try https://www.zooniverse.org/projects

It tells you about all sorts of scientific projects happening all over the world. I really enjoyed the nature ones found in the bar under the main heading. I had a go at identifying fish. It is good to know you are helping with scientific research.

RE

So you have made it to the end of the school year. Please write a letter to God explaining how you plan to fix the world so that it is no longer polluted and and slowly being destroyed.

Maths

How about some assessment to see how we have got on, I have attached some assessments to the heading below here. They are a fairly good measure of your learning and they come with answers sooooo NO cheating.

English

Well they have left the best to last. This final week is all about Pixar short storries so enjoy!

take the opportunity to finish any other work from earlier in lock down. All the other units are still on purple mash and well worth a look at even if you didn't try them at the time.

Science

If you like doing science then you will love this! It is science experiments you can do at home on the Royal Institute. Have a go at one or two and tell me about the science behind it!

https://www.rigb.org/families/experimental  If you like science you will love this!

Topic

Have a look at https://www.duolingo.com/learn it is a language website you can even do some mandarin! Have ago at some Chinese (mandarin) or even have a go at something else.

PE

Keep fit over the summer... See if you can design your own training program of running, cycling, swimming, skipping... anything really but try and do 30 mins a day. A website called fitness blender might give you some ideas. https://www.fitnessblender.com/videos

It has been a crazy 3 months, I never thought I would be here in July saying goodbye for the summer holidays knowing that when you come back you will be in Year 6! I have seen a lot of hard work over the last weeks, keep going and remember.....

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridge

Sunday 5th July 2020

We have had a really great week at school and we are looking forward to Nursery starting back this week. You have only two weeks to go till the summer holidays and then year 6! The twins come out top this week with a load of fantastic work but  I also received a fab powerpoint from Oliwia... nice work. It is great to see some really advanced IT skills so well done you three!

Website Challenge

Check out zoomquilt.org in a few minutes you will be 'sucked' in. It goes on forever and could be a good resource for helping inspire a fantasy story. It is just a bit of fun don't spend all day on it!

RE

See separate RE pan, I need a new paper recycle poster for my bin in the class room. Could you design one? Winner to be judged by Mrs Bridge and will go on my paper bin! We must remember to look after Earth. God trusted us with this job!

Maths

This week BBC bitesize have some work on Polygons however as well as this work on calculating Angles

You need to remember the key facts

A full turn is 360* (a circle)

Half turn 180* (a straight line)

Right angle 90*

The three angles in a triangle always add up to 180*

The four angles in a quadrilateral always add up to 360*

That's all you need, I will attach the files below.

English

This resource is amazing and the best English resource out there! It's week 2 of space! Please please have a go, there are loads of exciting resources that go with it and the tasks look fun!

Science

So English is still on Space. I have set a forces task on Purple Mash. Gravity and wind resistance may be two forces you could discuss as they are important when understanding space.

Topic

The DT lesson on bitesize looks great this week and I know there are some great designers out there!

PE

Try and do some exercise everyday this week. You could go on a bike ride or even a run with an adult. Perhaps you are good at skipping or dancing. At school some of the children have been doing 'just dance' they are very good! Maybe you could use Youtube to help you design your own dance routine and video it!

Dig deep for your last 2 weeks and remember you will be Year 6 when you come back!

Remember reading is on Purple Mash and I'll stick a maths task on Mymaths.

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridge

Sunday 28th June 2020

Well school is a little busier than last week and will be a little more busy still this week. You have 3 more weeks of work coming your way so please do your best to keep me up to date with what you have been doing and share with me some of your great work. I have received emails from Julia, Olivier, and Oliwia this week so well done you lot

RE

See separate RE pan, I would like you to think about some heroes and not the ones that wear capes! There have been many heroes in this pandemic, can you tell me about them and what they have done to make them heroes.

Maths

It is all about angles for the maths this week. I know we have done some work on angles before... Angle questions are either measuring and drawing angles or calculating angles. If you want to practice your angles and you have a protractor try these free worksheets. https://www.mathworksheets4kids.com/measuring-angles.php

English

LPDS English is still available on Purple Mash. This week is all about space. I love this sort of stuff and there are some great web pages including that one at NASA. This however was amazing and happened a few weeks ago!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxBj8R7XKe4

It will blow your mind!

Science

A little off currciculum in that we have done a little on this earlier in the year. You could either draw up a fact sheet of a planet that interests you or do the same using PowerPoint. Use all the space resources from English and the website challenge.

Topic

Look back to last weeks History, please have a go at it because it is a really important part of history particularly in light of the recent V.E. day 75 years celebrations.

Well it is meant to be half term so have a little break from work, and maybe send me some of your best writing. If you have work to catch up you could do some of that. It might be an idea to create a nice folder of your work. It will be something you can keep and show your own children when you tell them about the this unusual time!

I hope you are all keeping well and are able to get outside as much as safely possible.

How are your plants going? Has anyone been able to grow something interesting?

Send me any pictures, I would be really interested to see!

Monday 18th May 2020

Good morning gang and welcome to another week!

I have stumbled across some ace websites so I will share them with you here, maybe one or two a day.

Website challenge

There is some ace science to be done on this website, I was going to try and direct you to one in particular but there are so many I thought you could try one for yourself, take some pictures and email me all about it. http://www.sciencefun.org/kidszone/experiments/

RE

Last week I asked you to write a diary entry as if you were Cleopas on the Road to Emmaus.

This week try a storyboard

Design a story board to show what happened on the road to Emmaus.  Annotate the images to show you understand how the disciples knew it was Jesus when they reflected on their experiences.

Maths

Stick with the BBC Bitesize it covers much of the curriculum and provides some challenge.

English

LPDS  this week is all about the Titanic, I know this is an area of interest for Mrs Jackson so take it all in! She will be amazed at your knowledge next year!

Science

Use the 'Website Challenge' as your science for this week, failing that make a flower out of different pieces of scrap and ensure it has all the parts it needs. Use this picture to help you.

PE

Joe Wicks has been keeping the nation fit on youtube bit if you fancy something a little different

you could always try some yoga https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene

Hi people,

Another week, of course the big news is that there may be some partial reopening of schools next month. Mrs Howarth will be keeping you all informed of how and when this might happen but as you will understand this is very new information.

This week could you please keep following BBC Bitesize lessons and the LPDS link through Purple Mash.

Maths

Measurement task on 'my maths' and and lessons on BBC Bitesize, today is calculate the area.

English

Focus Theme: Inventions Discover inventions from history which have changed the world, inventions which were discovered by accident and the latest inventions created.

Science

There are some experiments that can be done at home and help illustrate how and why reactions occur. Many are irreversible http://www.sciencefun.org/kidszone/experiments/

See if you can try one of these (with your parents permission). Maybe you could take some pictures and explain the science.

RE

Penticost,

On the road to Emmaus

Read the extract from the Bible and then see if you could write a diary entry by Cleopas retelling this event and talking about how he feels and what he thinks and believes

Keep Smiling everyone,

Hi Gang,

Busy day at school, we have planted out some vegetables so fingers crossed!

I am having a minor issue with purple mash... nothing serious but I am unable to comment on your work grrrr. I am working on it and I have been sent the alerts and can see your work so don't panic.

I hope you are having a go at some of the lessons I have put at the top of the class page.

Please please email me your work and I will get it on our page!

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridge smiley

They are looking good!

Monday 20th April 2020

I'm back! Keep the work coming and ping it to the class email. I have found some daily maths lessons. They look pretty good... not as good as me though! I am still hoping to see some writing so get going and email me a picture of it!

The seedlings have gone crazy and in a week or two I will start planting out!

The maths lessons are at the top of the class page.

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridgesmiley

Wednesday 15th April 2020

I am not in school this week but keep the emails coming! I have yet to receive any writing from your school work packs, I'd love to receive some pictures of your creative writing and magnificent presentation! I am excited to see how our seedlings are getting on in the classroom. With any luck we shall have something to plant out in the next two weeks.

I hope you are all getting out for a bit of exercise but keeping safe. Some of you have been working very hard and I will keep 'purple mashing' and 'My mathsing' (although I gave you all a little break over Easter weekend).

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridgesmiley

Happy Easter......

Ready for planting out!

Tuesday 7th April 2020

Hello you lot,

Had a busy two days. We have a few extra children in yesterday and today which meant we were able to have a game of cricket in the sunshine. The seedlings are starting to grow so I thought it would be a good idea to get the beds ready for the vegetables I hope will grow! I have also received some great work so check it out!

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridgesmiley

Early Germination

Friday 3rd April 2020

Oooops I missed Thursday, I was at home. Friday was entertaining and we had fun checking on the seeds and tadpoles. The seeds have just started to germinate but it was very hard to see and the picture I took didn't come out well. I am hoping that on Monday there will have been some significant growth. I also managed to cook kebabs on the worlds smallest BBQ and didn't burn anything. I'd really like to see some great 'author standard' writing. Simply try one of the writing tasks and do an illustration before emailing me a picture of it to our class email.

Well done to all you doing work and remember

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridge smiley

Wednesday 1st April 2020

Ooops I forgot it was April fool! Too late now. Well no significant germination but I'll take a picture as soon as something happens. Well done Liana you are right. Germination is the very start of the growing process. I have extended the times for tasks on Purple Mash however I'm hoping it will not take until July for you to do it.

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridgesmiley

P.S Mrs Howarth has had loads of emails... None for poor Mr B!

Any great pieces of work I will stick on our class page!

emyear5@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Well it's a day at home for me! I hope you are working through your packs. It would be nice if anyone who has, could email me some of their work. Pictures of handwritten work with illustrations would look nice on the website. I am back in tomorrow and I am hoping some of our seeds will have germinated! If you know what this word means email me and let me know!

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridge smiley

Monday 30th March 2020

Good Afternoon peoples!

Hope you are all well and had a fantastic weekend... I was thinking of some other things you could do. I have seen some great bird feeders in the EYFS area all you need is a plastic water bottle a stick and some string! Hang them in your outdoor space if you have one and keep a record of what feeds off them. Maybe even research that bird species and do a fact sheet!  Then email it to me as a picture or word document.

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridgesmiley

Some herbs that were sown today                Hopefully we might get some vegetables!

Friday 27th March 2020

Last day of the week! We have made it through Week One. We have done some gardening at school and have planted a variety of vegetables. Once they have grown a bit we will be able to plant them outside in the raised beds! Have a nice weekend and make sure you take some safe exercise. Work is available on Purple Mash and Mymaths if you are running out and I will keep adding over the next week!

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridgesmiley

Thursday 26th March 2020

Great idea... Plant some seeds, you don't need much apple seeds and orange seeds are easy to get hold of.... Just eat some fruit.

Who can grow the greatest variety of fruit plants?

You don't need to go to the shops and you only need some soil, you might be able to get some from your garden if you have one. Orrrr you could really go for it and try and grow an avocado like the one in class! For instructions... get on Google.

Keep Smiling

Mr Bridgesmiley

Wednesday 25th March 2020

Well it was a sunny day at school today! There were not many of us but we had some fun. Dancing, training with Joe Wicks, gardening and even some golf with Mr Rafferty. Well done to the twins, first to do some reading on Purple Mash... Keep working on your packs; I am looking forward to seeing some awesome writing when we get back to school!

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridge smiley

Tuesday 24th March 2020

Hi Guys and Girls,

I am not in school today as the teachers and support staff are taking turns to go in. I have popped some reading onto Purple Mash to keep you going. If you have class mates numbers you can let them know I have done this. Keep safe, look after your families and stay at home!

Keep Smiling,

Mr Bridge smiley

Monday 23rd March

Hi Children,

Day One of school closures. I hope you are all getting stuck into your packs, there is plenty to keep you going for now but be on standby as I will be adding things on Purple Mash and My Maths over the next week. You may have noticed the class page looks a little different and I am hoping it is a little more user friendly. It is very strange for the teachers who are in school but we are glad you are all safe at home.

Keep smiling,

Mr Bridge smiley
