Hello my lovely Year 3s,
I can't believe it is our final week together! I know this isn't how any of us imagined our last week would be but I just wanted to say I have loved teaching you this year and I am so proud of how well you've done during this unusual time.
Our final week is Film Week! There are lots of film based activities for you to enjoy.
Please read Year 3's newsletter for this week's activities. There's also a reflection activity on there, where you can share your favourite memories with your friends. I will put all the memories you email to me on our class page for everyone to enjoy.

Happy Monday everyone ,
Shame about the rain today but the plants will be happy. Maybe you could listen to the sound of the rain and make your own song or even calculate how far away a storm is. Do you know how to do it? Always ask a grown up to help you.
1. After each flash of lightning, count the number of seconds until you hear thunder. (Use a stopwatch or count "One Mississippi, Two Mississippi, Three Mississippi...)
2. For every 3 seconds the storm is a kilometre away (5 seconds = 1 mile).
I enjoy counting how far away the storm is.
Remember to always stay safe indoors when there is a storm and stand away from the windows.
It's the first day back for some Year 1 children! Mrs Ridings and I have been preparing lots of fun 'social distanced' activities. I know it is a shame that you aren't coming back to school yet but I can't wait to see you when you do return! :)
This week we are continuing our flying theme with part two of Up, Up and Away.
See this week's newsletter for more information.
A big WELL DONE to: Kacper, William, Airfan, Arwa, Francisca, Emma, Anas, Waqas, Charlie, Elliot, Ella, Aaron and John, who sent me photos of their work or did some online home learning this week.
Have fun, word hard and believe in yourself. You can do it!
Send photos of your wonderful work to: EMYear3@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk

Hello Year 3,
I hope you are all okay. Thank you to everyone who has got in touch with me recently. It has been so lovely to hear from you and see what you have been getting up to.
This week, we are looking at how to stay healthy and happy by exploring the different types of food (you should be great at this as we have already had a good look at balanced diets), finding ways to keep fit, creating our own happy music, making a recycling diary and trying out some cool science experiments.
Get in touch by emailing me at: EMyear3@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk

Hello Year 3
Yay, Friday is here! I hope you are all well, staying safe and are having a good week. I have been in school today with Miss Jeffrey and Mrs Turner and it was so windy today we all decided to make kites and test them outside. There were a few times we had to race after escaping kites before they landed in the trees and bushes. It was a lot of fun!
Next week is half term, so I won't be uploading any new home learning. You've been working really hard and trying your best, so have a break and enjoy a week off!
Stay safe,
Love Mrs Sworeń
Monday 18th May, 2020
Hello everyone,
I hope you've all had a good weekend. I have been trying out lots of new recipes and playing board games. I managed to find my mini pool table hidden in a cupboard and it turns out I'm still quite good at it. It was lots of fun! Which games do you enjoy playing?
Send me your work and messages to:
EMyear3@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk
Please look at this week's Year 3 newsletter for home learning activities. We are focusing on fractions, shoe stories, building a paddle boat, yoga, caring for the earth and going on virtual adventures. Have fun and please try to do at least two English and Maths activities a week. It will help you keep your brain active during the lockdown.
Missing you all so much.
Stay safe,
Love Mrs Sworeń

We've got Mandarin, English, History, R.E. and SPAG activities to try. Maths is a little bit different this week, so please read the newsletter to find out what to do.
Well done to everyone who is staying safe at home, helping your family, making others smile and are trying their very best with their home learning. I know it's not easy but you are doing really well. You know who you are!

Friday 8th May, 2020
Good morning all!
Today is the 75th Anniversary of VE day or 'Victory in Europe Day'. VE Day was on the 8th of May, 1945 and marked the end of the fighting in Europe during World War Two. People were extremely happy and there were huge celebrations and street parties. Today we can remember the bravery and sacrifice of the people in the war.
Please try Mrs Howarth's challenge today and write a note of thanks for all those who made sacrifices 75 years ago.
I hope you enjoy your own VE Day celebrations safely at home.
Stay safe and enjoy the weekend,
Mrs Sworen
P.s. Well done to all those working hard this week and have sent me work. I hope to hear from more of you next week. EMyear3@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk
Monday 4th May, 2020
A very good morning to you all!
I just wanted to say... WOW ...and WOW again Year 3! Well done to everyone who is sending me photographs of your work, doing work online and emailing me about things you have been up to. There's been nature photos, daily walk photos, delicious baking, incredible PowerPoints, interesting fact files, information booklets, fraction work... the list goes on! I have now received over 100 photos from you all! There are so many photos, I've had to make a new Home Learning Gallery on our class page! Also check out our new Videos and Presentations folder underneath the galleries.
Keep the photos coming and if you need any help with work please email me: EMyear3@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk
Remember to look after yourselves and do what is best for you. I am not expecting you to be doing hours of work every day, just do what you can. The most important thing is to be happy and if that means playing with a jigsaw or watching a film today, then do that!
Love Mrs Sworeń
P.S. I've really enjoyed all your nature photos, so here is a squirrel that visited my garden this weekend. (Yes, my grass is super long!! I finally mowed it on Sunday. I don't think the squirrel will be too happy as I found lots of nuts he had hidden in the grass.)
Friday 1st May, 2020
Hello Year 3!
I hope you have all had a good week. Well done to everyone who has sent in photographs of what they have been up to. It is lovely to see you learning all about plants and enjoying nature. I'm pleased to see more of you are doing online work too!
I have been in school this week and we got all creative with crafts! As it was National Children's Gardening Week, we decided to create an indoor garden because it was raining on our lovely outdoor school garden. This way we now have a garden indoors and outdoors.
Here is a picture of it from Tuesday with pompom, felt and tissue paper flowers and egg box bushes. I forgot to take a picture of it yesterday. Oops! It now has a tree, mosaic butterflies, swirly snails and amazing handmade painted bird houses.
Year 3's Weekly Challenge is...
make your very own dance to your favourite song.
Try to get your family to join it too!
Stay safe and enjoy the weekend.
I look forward to hearing from you all,
Love Mrs Sworeń

Wednesday 22nd April, 2020.
Good morning and happy Earth Day Year 3!
What a lovely sunny day it is today!
Year 3's Weekly Challenge is ...
Make up your own game and play it with your family!
- First, think of a new game and what materials you might need.
- Next, make the game. You could get someone to help you with this part or do it by yourself.
- Then, think of the new rules for the game. It might be good to write the instructions down.
- After that, make sure to explain the rules to all the players.
- Finally, have fun playing it!
Please send me a photo or a description of your game to:
EMyear3@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk
It can be any type of game that you can imagine.
Here are some ideas of what you could do:
- A new board game like Snakes and Ladders, Monopoly, Scrabble or Ludo but with new rules or characters;
- A card game like top trumps;
- A guessing game or a quiz;
- A dancing game;
- An obstacle course game using random objects; (just make sure it's safe!)
- A catching game with wacky new rules.
- Maybe you could make a bowling game out of plastic bottles and a ball!
I can't wait to see the new games you come up with!
Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine,
Love Mrs Sworeń
Monday 20th April 2020
Good morning Year 3,
I can't believe it's the Summer term already! I hope you all had a lovely Easter holiday and are ready for a new week of home learning. I've altered our class page a little bit and you may have noticed we now have a Summer Term folder. In the folder you will find a weekly home learning newsletter, Maths and English resources and activity ideas for other subjects. Please don't feel like you have to complete everything. If you try 3 pieces of English and Maths this week that would be fantastic! Just do what you can and remember to have fun with your family too!
Send photos of your wonderful work to: EMyear3@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk
I can't wait to see your super work and see what you have been up to.
Remember I am just an email away if you need any help or want to say hello,

Monday 30th March, 2020.
Good afternoon Year 3,
I hope you had a lovely, relaxing weekend. On Saturday at 8.30pm, the Sworeń household took part in Earth Hour. We turned off all our lights and electronics, lit candles in the garden, thanked God for our wonderful world and played board games indoors (it was a bit too chilly to be in our little garden!). Did you take part too? For those of you who haven’t heard of it, it’s an annual event where everyone turns their lights and electronics off for one hour to show how much they care for our amazing planet and want to look after it. Buckingham Palace and Edinburgh Castle even took part! Click here to find out more about it: https://www.natgeokids.com/uk/discover/science/nature/lights-out-earth-hour-wwf/
Don’t worry if you missed it, there are some amazing craft projects (see links below) you could make to celebrate the wonderful world God has created for us. There are instructions for a polar bear lantern, a cardboard penguin and a heart animal! You could even create your own animal project with materials you have at home such as cardboard rolls, newspaper and cereal boxes. I’d love to see your creations. Remember you can send me photos of them to: EMyear3@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk

Good afternoon Year 3,
It's Friday! I hope you and your family are safe and well staying indoors. I have been working at home all day which has been very strange; I miss our classroom and your smiling faces. At least we have been able to enjoy the sun shining through our windows.
I have set some online activities for you all to do over the next week alongside your home learning packs. There's more information about it below. I'll be updating online home learning activities every Friday and I will provide feedback through these websites.
Mrs Howarth has set up a special email address for us, so you can send me work, little messages or even a photo of what you have been up to.
Our class email address is: EMyear3@englishmartyrs.lancs.sch.uk
Stay safe and enjoy spending time together indoors.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
Love Mrs Sworeń
Below is some information about the online activities I've set up for you to do over the next week (27/03/20-03/04/20).
Reading- Please read every day just as you normally do. We have a brand new book to read on PurpleMash called The Settlers. It’s all about the Stone Age and I’ve set a few reading activities about Chapter 1 of The Settlers for you to do over the next week. Click on the 2Do tab on PurpleMash to find them.
TTRS- Please go on Studio for 3-5minutes each day to work towards improving your Rockstar status. Remember you can send battle challenges to each other. I have really enjoyed the Rockslams some of you have already sent me! Log in to TTRS to find this week’s challenge from me.
MyMaths -Homework for this week is on equivalent fractions and calculating fractions. There are a number of children who have overdue MyMaths homework. Can you please make sure your homework is up to date. Thank you.
On PurpleMash there are some great fraction games to play. I've set one as a 2Do for you to try.
Spellings- Instead of your usual Friday spelling test, there will be a weekly spelling quiz on PurpleMash. I thought it would be a good idea to look at previous spellings to begin with, so can you please look over your spellings from Week 3 this term ready for the Quiz next Friday (03/04/20). It is already set as a 2Do if you want to try it sooner than Friday.
Group 1- prefix re-
Group 2- ue and ew vowel digraphs.
Coding- Log into Scratch to try out the different coding features. Have a play around with it and see what you think. I will be adding different tasks to try on Scratch soon.
Virtual Adventures! -I’ve added a new virtual adventures folder on our home learning page. There are lots of places to explore. I have loved watching the animals at various zoos today.
Monday 23rd March, 2020.
Hello Year 3,
I hope you have all had a lovely weekend staying safe and spending time with your families.
School has been very quiet today; I have missed you all so much but I am glad you are all staying safe at home. Please know that I am thinking of you and that I am here for every single one of you. I am very proud of you and proud to be your class teacher.
Keep checking back here for updates, as I will set work on PurpleMash, Scratch, TTRS and MyMaths soon! In the meantime, enjoy working through your home learning packs and reading with your families.
