Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
English Martyrs'...A place where everyone belongs
The doors at English Martyrs' are open to all, regardless of creed, background, ethnicity, colour, gender, sexual preference, we see everybody of equal worth, belonging, respect and importance.
Our school family is diverse and it is this that makes us unique, that makes us stand up for equality, to embrace diversity and celebrate and learn from it and from each other.
Everyone belongs at English Martyrs' and is made to feel they belong, as part of our school family.
We became a School of Sanctuary in 2017 and were the first school in Preston to be awarded the status. As a result of this, we have supported other schools on their journey to become a School of Sanctuary and schools that have new children of various backgrounds starting in their settings.
We are proud to be so diverse and of our families. We are proud of what our children and families have overcome, the barriers, hurdles and events, to be part of our school family.
We firmly believe in and live by our Mission Statement that we are all unique but together we are a masterpiece. A masterpiece that grows, learns, loves and cares together as one, under one school roof.
A place where we all belong. Where we all care for one another. Where we all respect one another. Where we all help one another. Where we all learn together, academically, culturally, socially, spiritually and morally.
Don't just take our word for it...
This is what some of our children, parents, staff and Governors think...
'I think the school is very inclusive and cares for ALL children and staff. The staff are caring and have the children’s well-being and the well-being of their families are at the heart of the school family.'
'We have to look after one another. Be helpful and caring.'
'Be kind. We care about each other. We share and care. We help. Help everyone. Work together. Be loved. Make friends. Say kind and helpful words. If someone has no one to play with help them.'
