Year 3
Mrs SworeΕ, Mrs Alla-Cudjoe and Mrs Mountford
welcome you to Year 3.
Please keep checking our pages regularly to see what we have been getting up to, as we would like to share our exciting learning journey with you! You will also find links to useful websites and educational games at the bottom of this page that will help support your child's learning.
Our school day starts at 8:55am and finishes at 3:25pm.
English, Maths, SPaG and Times Tables are taught daily. Please scroll down to see the full curriculum your child will be taught this year, along with a more detailed topic web for this half term.
P.E.
P.E. will take place on Friday and Yoga on Wednesday. Please make sure your child's P.E. kit is clearly labelled. Their P.E. kit needs to remain at school and only taken home every half term for washing unless it has become very dirty.
Reading
Children are expected to read their banded book daily as part of their homework. Your child will choose their own book in school as and when required. The books will be at the level your child is reading at. You can help your child by reading with them and asking them about what is happening in the book. Children will be sent home with a bookmark with a range of comprehension questions to aid reading.
Three Reads for a Bead!
Allow children three full days to read their book carefully practising phonics, the meaning of words and comprehension. Once children have three signed days in their reading records they will earn a bead to place on their reading necklace and may choose a new reading book.
Please ensure your child's reading record is signed and returned to school everyday.
Times Table Rock Stars
Please practise times tables at home with your child. Children are expected to use Times Table Rockstars for 3-5 minutes each day at home (if they have access), as research has shown that little and often is more effective than a longer session a few times a week. Children will be tested on their times tables each week.
Homework
Weekly homework will be set on a Friday. It will usually be either on MyMaths or Purple Mash. MyMaths and Purple Mash can be accessed using laptops, computers, tablets and mobile phones. This will need to be completed and handed in online by the following Wednesday. If your child does not have access to the internet a paper version will be provided. Please see the homework folder below for more information each week.
Homework Timetable:
- Reading- Daily
- Times tables (TT Rockstars) - Daily 3-5 minutes. Times tables will be tested weekly.
- Reading Comprehension or Maths - set on a Friday and is due back the following Wednesday.
- Spellings are set weekly. Spellings will be tested on Fridays. Please learn the words in your spelling homework book.
